TENAHA -- In a showdown of tradition-rich, small-school girls basketball programs, the team from outside of East Texas took home the trophy Saturday afternoon at the Special Events Center.

Sophomore standout Lanie Roberts had a huge performance to lead Lipan to a 64-49 victory over Winnsboro in the Tenaha Holiday Hoops Scholarship Classic championship.

Lipan, which is ranked No. 2 in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches' Class A Division II poll, got a game-high 30 points from Roberts, who helped Lipan reach the 2012 tournament championship game, where the Lady Indians lost to Tatum.

Danie Mabry's 14 points led Winnsboro, which got to Saturday's title game after beating defending tournament champion Tatum 60-48 in Friday's semifinals. The Lady Raiders were ranked 16th in the latest TABC Class 2A poll.

Tatum Tops Slocum for Third Place

Alexes Bell had another big game in the Tenaha Holiday Hoops Scholarship Classic, scoring 26 points to lead Tatum to a 69-52 victory over Slocum in the girls third-place contest at the Special Events Center.

Bell scored 27 points in Tatum's 60-48 tournament semifinal loss to Winnsboro on Friday evening.

Senior standout Valarie Larkin, who scored 34 points in a Thursday afternoon win against Campbell, scored a game-high 28 points for 1A D-I No. Slocum in Saturday's loss to Tatum, which is ranked 23rd in the TABC's Class 2A poll.
