Kilgore is once again without a game during the second week of the 2013 football season.

Bulldog head coach Mike Wood said Thursday that Lubbock Estacado informed him that it would not be able to meet Kilgore in Flower Mound on Sept. 6 for a non-district football game.

"Apparently there is not an open line of communication between the athletic department and the superintendent's office," Wood said in an email. "This came as a surprise Tuesday morning (by text) to myself and Lewisville ISD, who had already made arrangements to host the game."

The Kilgore vs. Estacado game was supposed to replace an open date created by Sweeny deciding not to play Kilgore after playing the 'Dogs in 2012. Kilgore beat Sweeny 24-7 in Crockett during last season's second week.

The early open date will be the first of two for Kilgore, which has an open date during the middle of its District 16-3A schedule that's caused by playing in a seven-team district. Kilgore is ranked No. 5 in Class 3A in Dave Campbell's Texas Football magazine and No. 6 in TheOldCoach.com's Friday Night Football magazine.

Unless Kilgore can find a replacement game, which isn't likely this late in the summer, the 2013 season will be the second in a row that sees the Bulldogs play a nine-game regular season. Last year's game at Pine Tree was called because of lightning.
