BASEBALL

Marshall Wins Two at Evangel Challenge

SHREVEPORT -- Marshall notched an 11-5 win over Shreveport Loyola Prep and a 6-2 victory against Shreveport Evangel on Friday at the Evangel Challenge.

Jacob Foster picked up the win in relief against Loyola Prep, going 2 1/3 innings. Foster allowed two unearned runs and struck out two. Landon Brune hit a three-run home run in the first inning for an early 3-1 lead.

Marshall's Josh Cole was 2-for-4 with a solo homer and a double, while Brandon Bilnoski, Staylon Roach, and Nick Andrews each had multi-hit games.

Dakota Shirley got the win against Evangel with a complete-game effort. Evangel's Spencer Goodwin hit a solo first-inning homer, but Goodwin kept the Eagles off the scoreboard until a sixth-inning sacrifice fly. Shirley finished with three strikeouts and one walk while allowing seven hits.

Marshall (6-10) got a first-inning solo homer from Brune.Connor Castle fourth-inning grand slam to put the Mavs up for good.

Marshall plays Anacoco at 1 p.m. Saturday followed by another game with Evangel at 3 o'clock.

Carthage Keeps Winning Streak Alive

JASPER -- Carthage won its sixth game in a row and pulled to an even 1-1 in District 20-3A with a 4-0 road shutout of Jasper on Friday.

JayDon Day pitched the complete-game shutout for the Bulldogs, who improved to 14-4 overall and 1-1 in district. Day struck out seven, walked none, and held Jasper to four hits.

Carthage's Tyler Musgrove was 2-for-4 with a double and one RBI. Jared Twomey singled and drove in two runs. Jack Morris, Brody Colle, Kolby Blissett and Samuel Chhor each doubled for Carthage, which avoided damage caused by five errors thanks to to double plays that got the Bulldogs out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the fifth and a two-on, no-out jam in the third.

Carthage, which outhit Jasper 9-4, plays at Pollok Central on Tuesday before hosting Lufkin Hudson on Friday.

Mount Pleasant Rallies to Down Longview

MOUNT PLEASANT -- The Mount Pleasant Tigers scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to earn a 4-3 win on Saturday.

Reid Russell doubled twice and drove in a run to lead Longview at the plate.

Gilmer Remains Undefeated in District with Win at Henderson

HENDERSON -- Jaidon Parrish had a good night at the plate to lead Gilmer to a 9-2 win at Henderson in Friday's District 16-3A.

Parrish was 2-for-3 with two RBIs as Gilmer improved to 3-0 in district play. The loss dropped Henderson to 8-8-1 overall and 1-1 in 16-3A.

Pittsburg Takes Win Over Brownsboro

PITTSBURG -- Cody Perry and Zack DeLuna combined for four hits and two RBIs, leading Pittsburg to a 7-1 win over Brownsboro on Friday.

Shawn Albright got the win on the mound, allowing one run on three hits in six innings. He struck out seven and walked three.

Blake Ralson reached base twice for Brownsboro.

Brownsboro Rolls Past Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE -- Landon Mason had two hits and three RBIs to lead Brownsboro to a 9-1 win over Jacksonville on Saturday.

Chris Davis added a three-run double for Brownsboro.

Tyler Thomison earned the win on the mound. He allowed no earned runs on two hits with five strikeouts and two walks in 5 1/3 innings.

Elkhart's Jordan White's Tosses Second No-Hitter of the Season

ELKHART -- Jordan White pitched his second no-hitter of the season to lead Elkhart to a 19-0 home win against Woden on Friday.

White improved his record to 5-1. He pitched a perfect game earlier this season.

Elkhart is 16-3 overall and 3-0 in district entering Tuesday's 7 p.m. game at Groveton.

Gunner Baker Spearheads Carlisle Win at Harleton

HARLETON -- Gunner Baker remained undefeated on the mound, homered, and drove in five runs to lead unbeaten Carlisle to an 8-1 win at Harleton on Friday.

Baker improved to 5-0 with a complete-game effort. He struck out 14, walked eight, and allowed three hits. He was 3-for-4 at the plate, scored three times, and stole two bases.

Clay Allphin was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while Ty Baker went 2-for-2 with a double and one RBI. Zach Brightwell had a triple and two runs.

Carlisle improved to 11-0 overall and 4-0 in District 20-A play. The Indians broke open a 1-1 tie with four third-inning runs. Carlisle added one run in the sixth and two in the seventh.

Carlisle hosts Leverett's Chapel at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

SOFTBALL

Edgewood Rolls Over Lone Oak

EDGEWOOD -- Brittany Thompson and Kasandra Young led Edgewood's 14-hit onslaught in Friday's 14-0 five-inning shutout of Lone Oak in District 14-2A action.

Thompson went 4-for-4 with a double, one RBI, four runs scored, and two stolen bases, while Young knocked in seven runs thanks to a 2-for-4 performance that included a triple, a double, and two runs.

Rachel Deen and Hannah Jameson combined for the three-hit shutout. Deen struck out four, walked one, and allowed one hit in two innings. Jameson struck out four, walked one, and yielded two hits in three relief innings.

Edgewood's Chelsie Young singled, walked twice, scored once, and stole one base.

Edgewood, which led 5-0 after two innings before a seven-run third frame, improved to 16-4-1 overall and 5-0 in 14-2A play. Lone Oak fell to 1-4 in district. Edgewood hosts Quitman on Tuesday at 6:45 p.m.
